Sheds and snooker in Idler magazine

The latest issue of the excellent Idler magazine is out now with my usual columns on sheds (this time on sheds in art) and snooker (which also features my dad, The Goodies, and my mum teaching me to bowl like Derek Underwood). Here's a snippet:

In the 1970s it wasn’t easy as a child to get into snooker. You couldn’t just nip out into the back garden for a quick frame with your brother or chalk a table onto the outside of the garage to practise your potting. You took a frisbee to a picnic, not an extended spider rest. So as a nipper you needed some kind of spark to get you going. That spark was my dad.
